Planes Collide At Boston Airport

Travel insurance can help travelers in many different situations, even one of the worst case scenarios of a plane collision.  That was the case yesterday as tragedy was avoided when a Delta jet clipped a regional airline plane.  CBS News provided more detail on the incident.

The wing of a Delta jet clipped the tail of an aircraft that provides regional air service for the carrier while both planes were on the taxiway and preparing to fly out of Boston on Thursday evening, forcing officials to remove them from service for inspections.

Local TV footage show the crash sheared off the tip of the Delta Boeing 767 and crumpled part of the smaller plane’s tail.

Boston Logan International Airport spokesman Phil Orlandella said one person is complaining of neck pain after the crash.

There were no other injuries.

In this type of situation, several travel insurance coverage benefits could apply.

Travel delay coverage is the most likely benefit to be used.  Expenses for food, lodging and taxis can be reimbursed if an airline caused delay lasts for a several hours, normally about 5-12 hours.

Trip cancellation and trip interruption can reimburse the unused and lost expenses of the trip if mechanical failure causes a significant delay.  Compare different policies closely, because not all plans offer this covered reason and some can require up to a 48 hour delay.

Some plans also include life insurance for the flight, however, benefits are only paid if the traveler is severely maimed or killed.  In this instance, there were no injuries so severe to trigger the coverage.

Hundreds of years, women were unable to inherit land and many peasant families had not be inherited. As working men died, they left no one to care for and support their families in churches and other groups organized money for the payment of support. Some of these groups have not provided full financial support for widows, but simply for the interment of the deceased recently. Finally, clubs, even extended to other benefits such as disability and dismemberment payments.

Now, life insurance has become as sleek and modern as the latest gadget from Apple. Read more…

In support of Mental Health Action Week (23-29 March), specialist travel insurance provider, goodtogoinsurance.com, is urging people to declare all mental health issues to their insurer and buy appropriate insurance cover before travelling.

A great number of people believe that declaring a mental illness may add considerable costs to their holiday and some risk travelling without declaring their condition, which could lead to them facing unexpected costs should they fall ill while abroad, or if they have to cancel their holiday.

Iain Sykes, Managing Director of goodtogoinsurance.com, said: “With one in five people suffering from depression at some point in their lives, it’s important that travellers don’t assume mental health conditions are automatically covered and that they shop-around for travel cover that caters for their needs.
