Consumers are being urged to examine their insurance policy to make certain that their home insurance covers their Christmas gifts, according to a price comparison site .
Moneysupermaket.com. has revealed that many UK insurers will increase home contents cover by up to ten per cent during the festive period. However, the time period for when these free top-ups are available varies between companies, which makes it necessary for individual policyholders to check when their Christmas gifts will be covered should the worst happen.
Julie Owens, head of home insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said: “With so many variations between insurers on seasonal uplift, checking the small print with a fine-toothed comb is always a must, especially to safe guard from being underinsured.”
Earlier this year, the website recommended that homeowners look at their home insurance policy to see if it covers accidental breakages caused by guests, which could be important when friends and relatives are expected over the festive season.
