It’s hard to believe how much bad press car warranty companies have had. Some of this is because of shady companies that have been complete rip offs, and some of this is because of car dealers that do not want the public to know the truth about them. These dealers want you to buy the warranty from them so they can mark up the price and have you depend on the dealership to have all repairs made there. But you can and should buy an extended warranty directly from the source itself. You will both save money and get much better coverage as well.
One thing I love about getting a good car warranty is that you can also get roadside assistance with it as well, and even lock out assistance in case you lock your keys inside on accident. Having this included in the warranty saves from the hassle of having a separate company take care of this for you. Sometimes you ca get roadside assistance included in a car insurance policy as well.
If you have a good warranty then you will be able to transfer it to another person if you ever sell the car. This is huge when you are trying to sell your car and stand out from the rest of the people out there. It is rare that you come across a car that is privately for sale that actually comes with an extended warranty so play this up as much as possible. You can even raise the price to reflect the value.
I don’t know about you but I can’t stand having to pay the repair shop for costly repairs. Even with some cheap automobile warranty companies you have to pay the shop and then wait for a check from the warranty company. This is not ideal, and that’s why there are certain warranties that will pay the repair shop directly so you don’t ever have to spend a dime out of pocket. And this also saves from haggling with the warranty company down the road when you are trying to get your money back.
All major parts in your car will be covered by a good extended warranty. Keep in mind that some warranties will not cover parts that include “wear and tear”. This means that almost any part in your car can be explained away as a “wear and tear” part and you will not be covered. This is why you want “wear and tear” covered as well as mechanical breakdown.
