If you’re planning to buy a new car for your college-bound student, your first thought might be to shuffle the vehicle deck to give them grandma’s car or your car, and then purchase a replacement. But experts say you might want to think twice about a strategy like that. Newer cars have all the latest safety features, a very important consideration four younger, less experienced drivers.
Before making any decisions, you might want to check with recent recommendations from Consumer Reports. On their Car Blog, they feature a video and a post talking about considerations when buying cars for teens and seniors. They offer their recent picks for the best car options in various classes for each population. Also see their picks for Small drivers and Tall drivers).
In their post, they make some other important points about teen drivers:
Many states have graduated licensing programs that progress teens through a series of steps to achieve the full freedom of driving, by restricting driving hours, passengers, and cell-phone usage. Even if your state doesn’t have such a program in place, you can implement one at home. Studies have shown that there are biological risk factors that diminish as your teen becomes a young adult, signaling immaturity as a significant concern. Limiting risks when the teen is 16 and even 17 years old can increase the chances of responsible, accident-free driving.
They also cite a prior post about teen defensive driving schools. This is a great idea to help your teen learn how to practice and prepare for emergency situations. Plus, it may help you to save money.
Travel insurance carriers often provide useful travel information on the company website. Travel Guard recently posted a story about cliff diving and a popular destination in Queenstown, New Zealand. The following is an excerpt from the article:
Adventurers know that Australia and New Zealand travel provides for some truly unforgettable experiences. Whether its climbing Mount Cook in New Zealand or exploring the Great Barrier Reef, the natural delights of the South Pacific have kept travelers coming back.
That’s also true of one of the more interesting manmade endeavors in the region, the Shotover Canyon Swing in Queenstown, New Zealand. This rope system launches brave tourists over the edge of a canyon, swinging them right by the cliff face before bringing them up again. The ride has proved popular, and many have returned to go again – including one American couple who went 17 times, according to Stuff.co.nz
While some may feel that it sounds extremely dangerous, the company behind the thrill ride focuses on safety as their top priority. All staff are expertly trained, and the system is designed to hold the weight equivalent of four cars.
Many travel insurance plans exclude certain hazardous sports and activities. This can include base jumping, scuba diving, mountaineering and extreme skiing, to name a few. Travel Guard Adventure Travel Protection is an insurance plan that does not exclude most adventure sports, meaning they are eligible for coverage. Always refer to the certificate of insurance for details.

Just as with other states throughout the country, special insurance coverage for previous illegal driving activities, such as the Georgia SR22 insurance requirements, are sometimes necessary by court order. In most cases, meeting these requirements is something that individuals need to stick to in order to drive legally with a license or permit.
While some may feel that the SR22 insurance coverage needed is a form of punishment issued by the state – often due to it being known for having higher prices than normal insurance premiums – this isn’t the case. In truth, rates tend to be higher due to individual insurance companies, however, this is generally due to companies seeing drivers who need the SR22 as being a higher risk factor than other drivers. In the end, it’s merely a question of finding the right price through the right insurance company.
As with any kind of insurance coverage, prices can vary when it comes to SR22 rates, depending on the company involved, the quotes given, and the overall driving history of the person. However, it is also important to realize that certain minimums are required with SR22 coverage such as $50,000 bodily injury total in an accident, $25,000 bodily injury liability for a single person and $25,000 property damage liability.
It’s good to keep into consideration that insurance companies can legally issue fees for SR22 paperwork that is submitted, with fees averaging around $50. This is, of course, extra when regarding actual insurance premium costs. Due t
